Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Moscow played an important role in ending the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Aliyev, the role of Russia in transferring the conflict settlement from the hot phase to the political and diplomatic sphere is very important. The Azerbaijani President emphasized that the long-term conflict could be resolved thanks to the Trilateral Statement signed in November 2020 with the active participation of Moscow.

Aliyev also acknowledged that Russia plays a leading role in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the establishment of neighborly relations between the countries.
