Lukashenko: Belarus will strengthen military cooperation with Russia

Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the prospects for the development of military cooperation within the framework of the Union State, speaking at a solemn meeting dedicated to the Day of Defenders of the Fatherland and the Armed Forces of Belarus on February 22, the presidential press service reports.

"We will strengthen the further development of military cooperation with our Russia, aimed at increasing the defense capability of the union," the Belarusian leader stressed, announcing the planned purchase of new types of equipment.

Over the next few years, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief explained, Belarus plans to purchase and supply to the troops a wide range of the most modern weapons, including Su-30SM aircraft, which performed brilliantly at the latest exercises, dozens of helicopters, and anti-aircraft missile systems. He also said that the issue of equipping the Armed Forces with modern S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems is currently being worked out.

Over the past six months, Lukashenka recalled, the armed forces of Belarussia have held large-scale joint exercises "West-2021" and "Allied Resolve-2022", which demonstrated the high coherence of the armies of the fraternal states. "It will be necessary - we will hold new ones, no matter who and how does not reflect on the other side of the border on our joint maneuvers with Russia. It is our sovereign right to learn to defend ourselves on our own land at any time and at any point!" the President emphasized.

He also noted the active development of interaction with the CSTO allies. The operational use of collective peacekeeping forces to stabilize the situation in Kazakhstan showed the high potential of the organization as a key factor in ensuring security in the Eurasian space. The CSTO countries, Lukashenka summed up, "are ready to continue to ensure their military security with all the forces and means at their disposal."
