Biden announced sanctions after Moscow recognized the republics of Donbass

US President Joseph Biden issued a statement announced a few hours earlier regarding the situation around Ukraine. In response to Russia's recognition of the Donbass republics, he announced new sanctions, TASS reports.

In particular, sanctions will be introduced against the sovereign debt of the Russian Federation; against the elite of the Russian Federation and their families; the certification of Nord Stream 2 will be frozen. At the same time, the Pentagon will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine. If the Russian Federation does not withdraw its troops from Belarus, the United States will transfer its troops to the Baltic states.

At the same time, Biden ruled out the possibility of forceful pressure on Moscow, saying that he "does not want to fight with Russia."

"We have no intention of going to war with Russia, but we do want to send a clear signal that the United States, together with its allies, will defend every inch of NATO territory and uphold the commitments we have to NATO," the head of the White House said.
