The Russian Embassy in London reacted to the sanctions

The Russian Embassy in London called the British sanctions imposed on Russia after it recognized the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics as illegitimate from the point of view of international law. The corresponding statement was published on the department's website.

The embassy noted that for several months anti-Russian hysteria reigned in the British media, forming in the eyes of the British and world public the image of Russia as an aggressor country, while the British government and the media were completely not interested in the fact that the inhabitants of the DPR and LPR have been living under shelling, in conditions of a complete transport and economic blockade,

get injured and die.

In connection with Russia's recognition of the DPR and LPR, the British Foreign Office made a strong protest, but the decision of the Russian authorities was dictated by the desire to protect the civilian population from the real threat posed by the current Ukrainian regime, because it does not leave attempts to solve the "Donbass problem" by force.

According to the embassy, London is not interested in resolving the crisis in Ukraine and “is more committed to earning political points by escalating tension,” and therefore British sanctions against Russia would have been introduced “in any case.”

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the DNR and LNR. After that, the US, Canada and the UK announced sanctions against the Russian Federation.
