Lithuanian authorities declare state of emergency due to situation in Ukraine

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has signed a decree declaring a state of emergency in the country, RIA Novosti reports.

The decision of the politician is due to the current situation in Ukraine. Nauseda asked Parliament to approve the decree.

“Today I am signing a decree on the introduction of a state of emergency, which the Seimas will approve at an extraordinary session. We are talking about the external security of Lithuania and we are obliged to do everything so that it is guaranteed without the slightest doubt,” Nauseda said.

In turn, the chairman of the Lithuanian Seimas, Viktorija Cmilyte-Nilsen, said that an extraordinary session of the parliament would be convened "immediately."

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.
