Russia (bbabo.net), - First Vice-Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Yefim Fixes thanked the Russian Armed Forces for breaking the water blockade of the peninsula. According to him, the resumption of the work of the North Crimean Canal is the restoration of justice.
"Thanks to the actions of the Russian armed forces and the decisions announced by the President of Russia, the water blockade of Crimea has been broken," Fix is quoted by RIA Novosti as saying. He also recalled that this canal was built not by Ukraine, but by the Soviet Union.
On the eve of the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that Russian troops had secured access to the city of Kherson, which made it possible to unblock the North Crimean Canal. Earlier, the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, instructed to begin preparations for receiving water through the canal system.
Recall that Ukraine provided up to 85 percent of the needs of Crimea in fresh water through the North Crimean Canal coming from the Dnieper. However, after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the supply of water through the canal to the republic was completely unilaterally stopped in the spring of 2014. The working group of the State Council of Crimea estimated at 1.4 trillion rubles the damage to the republican and local budgets, as well as to the sanatorium-resort and tourism sectors as a result of blocking the channel. In August last year, the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case on the fact of ecocide under Article 358 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
