Prague wants to abandon twinning with Moscow and St. Petersburg

The capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, plans to abandon twinning with the capital of Russia, Moscow and St. Petersburg, TASS reports citing the mayor of Prague, Zdeněk Hřib.

“The twinning agreements with Moscow and St. Petersburg, which were already suspended in 2014, should be terminated,” Grzhib said.

The agreement was suspended at the initiative of the Prague authorities.

“This partnership, as it became clear to us, does not make any sense. But I want to emphasize that this step is not directed against ordinary Russians," Grzhib assured.

Earlier, the leaders of the G7 agreed to impose "devastating" sanctions against Russia.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill on general mobilization to the Verkhovna Rada.
