“We have read today's announcements by the Japanese government about the so-called sanctions. Recently, I have already told high-ranking Japanese officials that Russia will respond to these actions, and I believe that the response will be serious,” the diplomat said.

The day before, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Tokyo is imposing sanctions against Moscow because of the military operation in Ukraine. Tokyo froze the issuance of visas to Russians and the assets of financial institutions, and also restricted the export of goods to organizations that are associated with the military sector.

In addition, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that it was decided to exclude the energy sector from the list of sanctions against Russia in agreement with the United States and other states.
