Russia - Zakharova announced Lavrov's participation in the session of the UNHRC in Geneva

Russia (bbabo.net), - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in the session of the UN Human Rights Council, which will be held in Geneva on February 28 - March 1. This was informed by the official representative of the Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

"It is expected that between February 28 and March 1, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Geneva, where he will take part in the high-level segment of the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council and speak at a conference on disarmament," the diplomat said. As part of his business trip, the Foreign Minister will have a conversation with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, as well as a number of meetings with heads of international organizations located in Geneva.

The session of the UN Human Rights Council and the conference on disarmament are traditionally held at the end of February. In previous years, at the first of these events, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry repeatedly drew attention to the double standards that individual members of the HRC adhere to, the growth of aggressive nationalism, especially in Eastern Europe, the unleashed war on monuments and history, and the suppression of media freedom. Lavrov's speeches at the disarmament conference actually became a long prologue to Russian initiatives on security guarantees. Also, special attention was paid to the growing threat of an arms race in space, the presence of US nuclear weapons in Europe.
