EU imposes sanctions against Putin, Lavrov and Russian officials

The European Union imposed sanctions on 98 Russian officials and security officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The relevant regulations were published on the EU website, TASS reports.

“In view of the gravity of the situation, the Council considers that members of the National Security Council who supported Russia’s immediate recognition of the two self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk should be added to the list of individuals, entities subject to restrictive measures,” the document says.

In addition, the EU has officially imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev and Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.

In addition, restrictive EU measures will be introduced against members of the State Duma who participated in the ratification of the government's decision regarding the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Russia and the Donetsk People's Republic and the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Russian Federation and the Lugansk People's Republic .

The agreements were signed on February 21 in Moscow. On February 22, the parliaments of the DPR and LPR approved the law on the ratification of the cooperation agreement with Russia.
