Russia - Photo of Sedov's expedition presented for the first time in the Presidential Library

Russia (bbabo.net), - Today at the Presidential Library of St. Petersburg during the conference "Arctic Day" "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", the Northern Maritime Museum of Arkhangelsk with the support of the Presidential Library opened the exhibition "Following the expedition of Georgy Sedov to the North Pole" .

The year 2022 is marked by memorable dates associated with the name of the legendary polar explorer: in May it will be 145 years since the birth of the polar explorer, and in August - 110 years since the departure of his expedition on the ship "Saint Foka" from Arkhangelsk to the North Pole. The exhibition is placed on the multimedia screens of the Presidential Library and will last until the end of March.

For the first time, the exposition presents unique evidence - color photographic slides by Nikolai Pinegin, an artist and writer, biographer of Sedov, who took part in the polar campaign. "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" followed in the footsteps of Georgy Yakovlevich on Novaya Zemlya and in Arkhangelsk: historical photos complement the modern photographs of Rossiyskaya Gazeta's photojournalist Nikolai Gernet, taken on the polar archipelago, as well as publications on the pages of Rodina magazine. As a result, in the Presidential Library today you can not only follow the route of the Sedovites, see how the Arctic territories have changed over 110 years, but also unravel the mysteries associated with the famous trip to the North Pole.

- The life of Georgy Sedov, a native of Donbass, was a story of overcoming. Until the age of 14, he was illiterate, starving, and at an older age he was forced to overcome the skepticism of those around him who did not believe that Sedov would become an officer, ”Angelica Gurskaya, director of the North-Western branch of Rossiyskaya Gazeta, said at the opening of the exhibition. - 110 years ago, the government of the Russian Empire did not support the idea of the expedition, but ordinary people believed in his dream, residents of St. Petersburg and Arkhangelsk took part in the fundraising. The story of Sedov became a legend, as you know, it formed the basis of Kaverin's book "Two Captains". Russia admired the feat of Georgy Yakovlevich 110 years ago, and we are proud today. It is such people that make up the honor and glory of our fatherland.

It should be noted that the unique glass transparencies were donated to the Northern Maritime Museum of Arkhangelsk by the widow of Nikolai Pinegin. In total, there are 80 shots in this golden Russian collection:

“Today we got the opportunity to see Sedov's expedition in color for the first time,” said Yevgeny Tenetov, director of the Northern Maritime Museum, at the ceremony.

The exposition includes photographs of Georgy Sedov, members of the expedition, the schooner "Saint Foka". As well as "cosmic" views of Novaya Zemlya, riding Arkhangelsk and Siberian huskies, teams and even "home" favorites of the Sedovites - polar bear cubs, which the expedition later delivered to Arkhangelsk.

“These transparencies have never been published or exhibited,” says Yevgeny Tenetov. - As a result of studying the collection, we decided to publish a book - a large album in which transparencies will be published, as well as other items from the museum's funds. In particular, the personal belongings of the expedition members, including, for example, Pinegin's alarm clock, his paintings and sketches, and the token of Sedov's expedition donor. Just the other day, we added to our collection a set of postcards published by the fundraising committee for the expedition.

According to the director, a practically complete edition of everything connected with the Sedov expedition will be obtained: the book is planned to be published by May, when the 145th anniversary of Georgy Yakovlevich will be celebrated.

- I am shocked by what I saw - a wonderful site was chosen for the exhibition, modern technologies were used, - Natalya Kadashova, head of the representative office of the Arkhangelsk region in St. Petersburg, shared her impressions. - This is very important both for me and for all residents of Pomorye: here, at the exhibition, you feel a sense of pride for your homeland, because it was from Arkhangelsk that the expedition of Georgy Sedov started, and it is here, in Arkhangelsk, that these unique photographs are stored today.
