Resident of Donetsk: There is no food shortage

Why is there no panic among the population in Donetsk? Maybe because we have been at war for eight years, and we know very well that we should not panic in any case? Maybe because we know well that we need to remain calm, no matter how hard it is. That's the only way to survive.

However, I understand why everyone is surprised at our calmness. It looks especially strange now against the backdrop of the hysteria that is happening in Ukraine. There, in one day, people empty the shelves of grocery stores, stock up on flour, cereals, pasta, buy salt, sugar, matches. And they buy bags and boxes.

“Mom, a friend called me today from the Dnieper. He says that they are in a panic, there are kilometer-long queues in stores for flour. People swear over a pack of pasta, crush each other. “In one hand” you can buy only two bottles of sunflower oil a bag of buckwheat; from 3 to 5 kilograms of flour and from 3 to 5 kilograms of sugar," my son tells me over the phone.

I also have friends there who I don't talk to. But judging by their social media status, to say they are panicking is an understatement. The hysteria about the fact that everything is gone, on all tapes of the Ukrainian media space lasted all day yesterday.

Just in case, I decided to check, maybe somewhere in the Donetsk stores the products have run out? I walked three blocks, went to several supermarkets and very small shops. There is no excitement, there are not many buyers either. The range of products is more than varied. No one raised prices, and even promotional discounts for some products.

But public transport has become less: half of the drivers were also called up for service. The majority of women also remained at enterprises and in production. Men went to the front, to defend their homeland ...
