China's Permanent Representative to the UN: Russia's security concerns must be taken into account

The five rounds of NATO enlargement have affected Russia's security interests, and Moscow's concerns must be taken into account. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of China to the UN Zhang Jun, speaking on Friday at a meeting of the Security Council of the world organization.

According to him, China stands for the fact that the security of one country cannot be achieved by violating the security of other countries, and regional security cannot be strengthened by strengthening alliances, TASS reports. Against the backdrop of NATO expansion, "Russia's legitimate security concerns should be taken into account," the diplomat stressed.

Jun believes that the UN Security Council should respond to the situation in Ukraine, but its response should be reasonable. He recalled that over the past week the Security Council held two emergency meetings, at which all parties detailed their positions on the current situation. According to China's permanent representative, all actions of the Security Council should be aimed "at defusing the crisis, and not at adding fuel to the fire."

He also added that China supports the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis through negotiations, and "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states must always be respected."

Recall that on Friday, Russia used its veto power in the UN Security Council and blocked the resolution of a group of Western countries. This document condemned Russia's recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, as well as the conduct of a special military operation of the Russian Federation to protect the LPR and DPR from Ukrainian aggression. Eleven countries voted in favor of the draft resolution. At the same time, China, India and the UAE abstained from voting.
