President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, RIA Novosti reports.

Bzhaniya pointed out that Abkhazia considers it necessary to be involved in the fate of the DPR and wishes them safe and sustainable development. The head of Abkhazia expressed confidence that the entire Abkhaz society supports his decision to recognize the independence of the DNR and LNR.

Bzhaniya also stressed that the people of Abkhazia experienced similar events and sympathize with the inhabitants of the republics in their struggle for justice and for the right to a decent life.

In the near future, the government of Abkhazia intends to conclude interstate agreements on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the DPR and establish diplomatic relations with them.
