The United States will impose sanctions against the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine, said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

“The finance minister will also impose full blocking sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund, a state-owned financial institution that ... is responsible for raising capital in sectors of the Russian economy with high growth potential,” Psaki said.

Earlier, the United States officially imposed sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

A similar decision was made by the European Union. The EU also introduced restrictive measures against Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.

It also became known that the White House asked Congress for $6.4 billion "for the Ukrainian crisis."
