China's envoy to the UN calls Russia's security concerns legitimate

China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun said that Russia's security concerns are legitimate, RIA Novosti reports.

He noted that the Ukrainian problem did not arise today, and the situation around Ukraine has been aggravated for a long time due to a number of factors.

Jun stressed that Beijing supports the idea of a comprehensive security concept.

"We believe that the security of one country cannot be ensured by undermining the security of other countries," said the envoy of China.

He urged other members of the UN to pay attention to Russian concerns arising from NATO's rapid eastward expansion.

Jun added that in order to finally resolve the Ukrainian issue, it is necessary to abandon the Cold War mentality and respect the legitimate security concerns of all countries.

Earlier it was reported that Russia vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt to the operation to demilitarize Ukraine.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a military special operation to protect Donbass in response to a request for help from the heads of the LPR and DPR.

Ukraine severed diplomatic relations with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill on general mobilization to the Verkhovna Rada.
