Georgian Prime Minister believes that the opposition wants to draw the country into a war against Russia

Against the backdrop of a special military operation in Ukraine, the opposition in Georgia is trying to draw the country into a conflict with Russia and repeat the events of August 2008, Prime Minister of the Republic Irakli Garibashvili said during a government meeting, quoted by TASS.

“It is very sad that our radical opposition rejoices in the war in Ukraine and in all troubles is looking for benefits and interests for itself. Their goal is to repeat the tragedy from which they themselves failed to save our people and country,” he said, referring to the events in South Ossetia in 2008.

According to the head of the Georgian government, the country continues to support Ukraine at all levels, including by sending 100 tons of humanitarian aid the day before.

“Our government, within its capabilities, is doing everything to express maximum support to our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, be it political, humanitarian, human or otherwise,” Garibashvili said.

Earlier, Georgia refused to join the anti-Russian sanctions.
