The French Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the country does not recognize the results of the referendum held in Belarus, TASS reports.

“France, like its European partners, did not recognize the results of the rigged presidential elections on August 9, 2020 in Belarus. France also does not recognize the results of the so-called referendum, which took place in this country from February 22 to 27, ”the French diplomats said.

Earlier in Belarus, a referendum was held to amend the constitution. The CEC of the country noted that more than 6.8 million Belarusian citizens are on the voting lists. The bulletin contained only one question with the answer options “for” or “against”: “Do you accept amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus?”.

Almost 800 people were detained during the referendum.

In December last year, the Belarusian authorities published a draft amendment to the country's basic law. One of the main points is the change in the term of office of the head of state.
