Biden nominates African-American woman for US Supreme Court position

US President Joe Biden nominated Ketanji Brown Jackson for the position of Justice of the US Supreme Court. It is reported by the Boston Herald.

Jackson, who if confirmed will be the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court, will reportedly take the place of outgoing Justice Stephen Breyer, whose assistant she previously served.

“I believe the time has come for us to have a court that reflects all the talent and all the greatness of our nation,” US President Biden said, explaining his decision to nominate Jackson to the Supreme Court.

Brown Jackson's nomination must be confirmed by the US Senate. At the moment, 50 of the 100 seats in the Senate are occupied by representatives of the Democratic Party, and the remaining 50 are Republicans. In the event that the votes of the senators are equally divided, the 101st vote is given to the Vice President of the country.

I previously wrote about how former US President Donald Trump changed the balance of power in the US Supreme Court by appointing Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the post.
