The State Department said that Russia obstructed the extension of observer status in the BSEC for the United States

A spokesman for the US State Department said that Russia was trying to prevent the extension of observer status for the United States in the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC), TASS reports.

“We are deeply disappointed with the actions of the Russian Federation to block the extension of our observer status. Russia's actions run counter to its stated goal of diplomatically reducing tensions in the region, ”he said.

According to him, the United States will continue to interact with allies to develop the region's economy, overcome the consequences of climate change and introduce innovations to ensure energy security.

Earlier, Thomas Countryman, senior adviser to the Bureau of International Security and Non-Proliferation of the US State Department, said that the success of the conference on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons would help the dialogue between Russia and the United States on arms control. According to him, the success of the conference could have a positive impact on the overall outcome of the negotiations between Russia and the United States on armaments.
