Marshal Shaposhnikov knocked out an underwater target

The Russian frigate "Marshal Shaposhnikov" has successfully conducted firing practice in the Sea of Japan. A rocket of the newest "Answer" complex was launched from the ship. It is designed to combat submarines, the missile can be controlled by an operator. In the role of a conditional enemy, a "sea target imitating an enemy ship" was used. The frigate of the Pacific Fleet "Marshal Shaposhnikov" entered the Sea of Japan and successfully launched the newest missile "Answer", hitting an underwater target. The statement of the RF Ministry of Defense is being broadcast by the Zvezda TV channel.

"The missile warhead successfully hit an underwater target," the message says.

The "Answer" shipborne anti-submarine missile system is designed to combat enemy submarines. To launch missiles, the ZS-14 universal launchers are used, with which you can fire hypersonic "Calibers" and "Onyxes", added to the Ministry of Defense.

“In the sea range of the Peter the Great Gulf, the frigate's crew will conduct a set of trainings as intended with preparatory exercises for rocket firing. A naval target imitating an enemy ship will be used in the role of a mock enemy, "said the report of the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, published before the exercises.

After the completion of the firing, the frigate is included in the permanent readiness forces of the Pacific Fleet. On December 14, the Shaposhnikov's crew returned “from the sea after successfully checking the recently installed modernized systems,” the article adds.

PRK "Answer" allows hitting targets at a distance of up to 40 km (in the version for surface ships). At the head of the rocket is a small anti-submarine torpedo capable of homing at a target. After launch, the rocket drops a torpedo with a parachute into the water, which searches for an enemy submarine using hydroacoustics.

The large anti-submarine ship Marshal Shaposhnikov was laid down in 1983 at the Yantar Baltic shipyard in Kaliningrad. It was launched in January 1985. The name was given in honor of Boris Shaposhnikov, a former Tsarist Lieutenant Colonel who rose to Marshal of the USSR under Stalin - he participated in the Stalinist repressions, played an important role in the Defense of Moscow in 1941 and the Battle of Leningrad, died in 1945, before the surrender of Germany 44 day.

The ship has a rich track record.

In 1991, Marshal Shaposhnikov carried out combat service in the Persian Gulf zone, performing the functions of a reconnaissance and tracking ship for the forces participating in Operation Desert Storm. In 2003, the frigate visited the American naval base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

In 2010, Marines from the crew of the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov freed the tanker Moscow University, which had been captured by Somali pirates.

The captain of the boarding ship managed to get in touch with the Russian ship. A helicopter was sent from its side for reconnaissance. The pirates began to shoot at him, one of them was killed by return fire. High-speed motor boats with marines were launched from the frigate. After a short skirmish, Russian servicemen took control of the ship and disarmed the pirates. According to the official version, the pirates were landed in an inflatable boat with a small supply of food and water, but no means of navigation. According to Echo Moskvy, not a single pirate made it to the coast.
