Human rights activists sound the alarm about the scale of Islamophobia in Australia

Australian human rights activists published a new report on the situation with Islamophobia in the country, and the conclusions of the researchers were very depressing.

As it turned out, since the March 15, 2019 terrorist attacks in New Zealand, Muslims in Australia began to encounter Islamophobia 4 times more often than before, according to bbabo.net, citing The Guardian.

The Islamophobia in Australia report documented episodes of hateful aggression against Muslims. Among the most "outrageous" cases, human rights activists note the beating of a pregnant Muslim woman in a cafe by a militant Islamophobe, as well as the patient insulting his Muslim dentist in the chair during treatment.

In total, the report analyzed 247 incidents of Islamophobia. 82% of offline episodes were women, of which 85% were wearing a hijab at the time of the attack.

"We're not saying this report is representative of all of Australia, but it's a very representative sample of Islamophobia across the country," said researcher Derya Iner, one of the report's authors.
