Ex-CIA officer urged not to make an evil empire from Russia

Former CIA officer Joe Weisberg said that US relations with Russia were stuck in the distant past, and that Americans still perceive Moscow as an "evil empire." He reported this to The Washington Post.

In his article, he compared the situation around the "invasion" of Ukraine with the Cold War. Then everything that was connected with the USSR was presented by the Americans in a negative way, Weisberg believes.

“We were the good guys and I was one of the good guys. I wasn't the only one who saw the world through this lens, ”he wrote.

However, his views later changed when he realized that the Soviet and American special services were not much different from each other, and his view of Moscow as an "evil empire" was greatly exaggerated.

In his opinion, it is not surprising that Russia perceives the admission of some former Soviet republics to NATO and the sanctions as a threat. Weisberg suggested that the United States take the first step and prevent a possible conflict.

Earlier it was reported that the overly soft policy of US President Joe Biden towards Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin contrasts too much with his election promises and could lead to negative consequences for the Democratic Party. This opinion was expressed by Bloomberg columnist Eli Lake.
