Damir Mukhetdinov: Muslims did not support the mention of God of a “certain confession” by voting for amendments to the Constitution

Damir Mukhetdinov, the first deputy chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, saw a “signal” in the fact that when spirituality and religiosity are mentioned at the official level, there is a reference to a specific confession - Orthodoxy. The Muslim leader stated this Facebook page.

Earlier, the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, Andrei Alekseev, who is in Beijing as the “confessor of the Russian Olympic team,” reported on a “fatherly” conversation with the figure skater Kamila Valieva, who found herself in a difficult psychological situation due to allegations of doping.

“Confessor of the Olympic team” sounds exactly the same as the “Main Temple of the Armed Forces” and “deputy group for the protection of Christian values. Ambiguous in relation to the principle of freedom of conscience (are all athletes/military and deputies believers?) and derogatory in relation to the religious beliefs of people who do not belong to the Orthodox culture,” Mukhetdinov wrote.

He added that he sees this as a "signal".

“It looks like a signal: the views, spirituality, religiosity of people outside of one particular denomination have neither value nor meaning, they are not worthy of being protected, or being marked symbolically, or being embodied in practical concern for the spiritual state of their carriers,” – noted the first deputy chairman of the muftiate.

According to him, the amendments to the Constitution supported during the referendum with the mention of God do not imply the God of any particular denomination.

“Yes, we voted for amendments to the Constitution and Muslims supported the mention of God in the main law of the country,” Mukhetdinov said. – But when during the referendum we went to the polls, we went to vote not for the “God” of any one particular religion or denomination, but for the very idea of faith in the Almighty as the highest moral guideline and foundation under all human relationships with the world around him ".

The representative of the Muftiate lamented the fact that an Orthodox priest provides spiritual support to Muslim athletes in Beijing, concluding that there are no religious figures of other traditional faiths near the team.

“From the fact that an Orthodox priest spoke to an athlete from a Muslim family, Kamila Valieva, during difficult days for her, we understood that a) there is an Orthodox priest next to our athletes in the Olympic village and b) from no other religions (despite the fact that that there are four traditional religions in Russia) there are no clergy near our athletes at the Olympics, ”the post says.

“The question of whether the medals won by its Muslim athletes are less valuable and significant for Russia remains open,” the Muslim figure concluded.
