As part of talks on Iran's nuclear program on Friday, the United States expressed its readiness to remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations, where they fell in 2007, Arab News reported.

The Revolutionary Guards were the first official state military formation to be on the US terrorist list.

“The Revolutionary Guards are the main force of the Iranian government in the development and implementation of the terrorist campaign,” said President Donald Trump.

The reversal in US policy was negatively received by Israel and the Gulf states, which issued a joint statement on the matter.

“An attempt to remove the Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations is an act of disrespect for their victims, as well as ignoring obvious documented evidence. We hope that the removal from the terrorist list will be done in exchange for a commitment not to harm the American people. We also hope that the United States will not abandon its loyal allies in the Middle East in response to the empty promises of terrorists," they said.
