Germany pins its energy hopes on Qatar

Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - The German authorities announced successful talks in Doha between Vice Chancellor, Economy and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habek and the leadership of Qatar, Die Welt reports.

The main issue on the agenda was to increase the supply of Qatari gas, which the Germans expect to replace Russian gas in an attempt to reduce energy dependence on Moscow.

An agreement in principle was reportedly reached in Doha on a future deal to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the tiny emirate.

LNG supplies are expected to be handled by oil and gas company QatarEnergy through two new terminals that have yet to be built on the Baltic coast.
