Russian court recognizes Facebook and Instagram as extremist organizations

Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has been declared an "extremist organization." The corresponding decision was made by the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow. The decision takes effect immediately. The block will not affect WhatsApp, which is also owned by the company.

Recall that earlier Meta asked to postpone consideration of the application of the Prosecutor General's Office to ban activities in Russia due to the need to prepare a position. Meta asked to appoint a linguistic expertise as part of the statement of the Prosecutor General's Office to ban its activities in Russia.

According to Sergei Boyarsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, Russian media should now indicate their status as an “extremist organization” when mentioning Facebook and Instagram, and their logos cannot be used.
