Pinochet fan admits defeat in Chile elections

In Chile, ultra-conservative politician José Antonio Cast congratulated his rival Gabriel Boric of the left-wing I Approve Dignity coalition on winning the presidential election.

“I just spoke with Gabriel Borich and congratulated him on a great victory. From this day on, he is the President-elect of Chile and deserves our full respect and constructive cooperation, "Cast wrote on his Twitter account.

Boric will become the youngest head of state in Chilean history. In 2011, he took part in massive student protests as one of the leaders. Chile's youth went on strike against the current system of paid higher education.

Borich considers it necessary to introduce a tax on wealth. In his opinion, the country needs to collect royalties from the mining industry. According to TASS, copper is Chile's main export.

Boric considers it necessary to legalize abortion, which is prohibited in the country, but there is a black market for such operations in clandestine conditions.

His program also included the transition to free education and the reform of law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the ex-president of the country, UN High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet supported Boric's candidacy in the elections.
