Peskov: the law on simplified citizenship will not bring the meeting between Putin and Zelensky closer

The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov answered the question of a journalist about whether the law signed by the Ukrainian leader on simplifying the acquisition of citizenship of the country for certain categories of citizens, including Russians, will facilitate the meeting between the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky.

According to Peskov, this factor can hardly play any role in the preparation of the meeting of the heads of state.

"There is no substantive preparation for the meeting of the two presidents, we do not receive any specific proposals from our Ukrainian colleagues," Peskov said.

On December 18, Zelensky signed a law simplifying the acquisition of citizenship of the country for persons "who have served or are serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have outstanding services to Ukraine or are of public interest, are citizens of the aggressor or occupying state and have been persecuted for political beliefs." ...

Earlier, Kiev called the condition for Zelensky's meeting with Putin. The position of the President of Ukraine is that his direct dialogue with Putin should be based on the main request of both the Ukrainian and Russian peoples.

Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, noted that negotiations with Zelensky will make sense when he recognizes Crimea as Russian.
