Saudi opposition leader killed in Beirut

One of the well-known Saudi dissidents, Mania al-Yami, was found murdered in an apartment on the southern outskirts of Beirut, TASS reports. The 42-year-old Saudi opposition leader died from stab wounds. The Lebanese security forces have detained two of his brothers, who are now prime suspects in the crime.

Al-Yami has lived in the Lebanese capital since 2015. He is a co-founder of the National Assembly Party, which advocates holding general elections in the kingdom in order to create a representative body of government. The party's headquarters are in London.

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia in Beirut, Walid al-Bukhari, thanked the Lebanese law enforcement agencies for their efficiency in investigating the murder of a Saudi national and detaining the criminals.

This is not the first such incident. Recall that in 2018, the Saudi publicist Jamal Khashoggi, who was known for his critical articles about the politics of Riyadh, was killed. He lived in the United States, where he contributed to The Washington Post. He disappeared on October 2, 2018 after visiting the Saudi Arabian Consulate General in Istanbul. On October 20 of the same year, the Saudi authorities reported that the journalist was killed in the building of the diplomatic mission as a result of the conflict.
