How Spain is preparing for the holidays in a pandemic

Russia (bbabo.net) - A couple of months ago, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez assured that Catholic Christmas this year will be different from the past, that the holidays will be better. However, this prediction is not destined to come true. The sixth wave of coronavirus is now registered in the Iberian kingdom. In a month and a half, the number of COVID-19 patients has increased by more than 500 thousand. As a result, more than 5.5 million cases of infection have been registered in Spain since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Health, over the past 14 days, more than 600 cases of infection per 100 thousand inhabitants have been detected in half of the autonomies (and in Navarra and the Basque Country, more than a thousand cases). In addition, tests for coronavirus are positive in 12.52% of cases (the 5% threshold set by WHO was crossed on December 1). As La Razon notes, these data indicate that public health services have already lost control of the spread of the virus.

Against the background of this news, the Catalan authorities decided to close nightlife, limit visits to restaurants (up to 50% of the capacity) and shopping centers (no more than 70% of the capacity), and prohibit gathering in groups of more than 10 people. All civil servants able to work from home are transferred to telecommuting. A curfew is imposed from one in the morning until six in the morning. The restrictions will be in effect for at least 15 days, starting next Friday, December 24, the regional authorities do not exclude that these measures will be extended after the New Year.

And in Madrid, starting tomorrow, antigen tests will be distributed free of charge in pharmacies. The authorities hope that this will help contain the spread of the coronavirus, that people will check themselves and, if they receive a positive result, will go to the doctor, and will not take part in family meetings (the fact is that in Spain during the Christmas holidays all close and distant relatives often gather together , of which there may be several dozen people). Not many are ready to purchase such a test on their own, the prices in Spanish pharmacies are among the highest in Europe (up to 7 euros, and before the state intervened in this matter, they reached 10 euros).

Since all restrictions are under the jurisdiction of the regions, the Ministry of Health limited itself to issuing a memo on how to behave in order not to get infected with the coronavirus during the holidays. First of all, it is recommended not to gather the whole family, to invite only those with whom you see constantly. It is also advised to wear masks everywhere, wash your hands as thoroughly as possible, use disinfectants, ventilate the premises, and not transfer any objects from hand to hand (even.jpgts). At the table, put away those who came to visit, sign all the glasses so that no one accidentally takes someone else's, and talk as quietly as possible.
