Asia (bbabo.net), - Servicemen of the Border Troops of the State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan detained violators of the Afghan-Uzbek border in the Surkhandarya region. This was announced today, on August 23, by Fergana news agency with reference to the press service of the department.
According to the agency, on the island of Aral Paygambar (Surkhandarya region), located on the Amu Darya River, a group of Afghan citizens were seen who violated the state border and moored to it on boats.
A frontier detachment of Uzbekistan arrived at the scene, to which the violators resisted.
“Thanks to the operation, all violators of the state border of Uzbekistan (24 in total) were detained to establish their identity and conduct investigative measures. According to the results of the survey, it was established that the cause of the border incident is the illegal extraction of licorice root, which grows in large quantities in the border zone of Uzbekistan,” the State Security Service reported.
Currently, the entire territory of the Aral Paygambar Island is under the full control of the Border Troops of Uzbekistan.
On August 22, a message spread in the Uzbek segment of social networks that militants of the radical Taliban movement (an organization banned in the Russian Federation) occupied a border island belonging to Uzbekistan on the Amu Darya River, which caused a shootout between the militants and Uzbek border guards.
