Borrell: Iran asked for some 'corrections' in 'final' deal text

Greater Middle East (bbabo.net) - Iran has requested "some adjustments" to the European Union's draft agreement to restart the 2015 nuclear deal, head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell said. This was reported by the news portal Arab News on August 23.

During an interview with Spanish public television TVE, Borrell said that most of the countries involved in nuclear talks with Iran agree to the proposal, but the United States has yet to provide its response.

A 2015 agreement between Iran and six powers — Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States — guaranteed the relaxation of sanctions imposed on Iran in exchange for limiting its nuclear program. The deal was made to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

But in 2018, former US President Donald Trump, a vocal critic of the deal, unilaterally withdrew from it and imposed tough new sanctions on Iran.

Earlier this month, after more than a year of negotiations between Borrell and his team, the EU presented the so-called "final" text of the deal, which, however, was not made public.

"Iran responded by saying 'yes, but', meaning they want to make some adjustments," Borrell told TVE, without giving details.
