Belarus presented its vision of a comprehensive disarmament program

Belarus (bbabo.net), - Counselor of the Belarusian Permanent Mission to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Alexander Pytalev, as coordinator of the Subsidiary Body 5 of the Conference on Disarmament, held a briefing for fellows of the UN Disarmament Education Program. This was announced today, August 26, at the Permanent Mission of Belarus.

“The diplomat informed the audience about the approaches of Belarus on a number of important issues on the conference agenda, the discussions held within the framework of the said subsidiary body on the topics of new types and systems of weapons of mass destruction, radiological weapons, transparency and a comprehensive disarmament program, shared experience in negotiating draft disarmament documents,” the report says.

It is noted that “within the framework of the event, an open exchange of views took place on the state of affairs in the field of disarmament and international security, progress in the work of various multilateral bodies, including the Conference on Disarmament.

Recall that the Belarusian authorities have repeatedly proposed various ideas for a large-scale disarmament program. In addition, in 2017, the Belarusian leader announced the need to organize a new peace initiative, which was called "Helsinki-2" by analogy with the international Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe held in 1973-1975.
