Grossi: We saw quite a lot, we plan to work further

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - IAEA experts conducted an initial assessment of the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP, managed to inspect "quite a lot" and plan to work further. This was announced today, September 1, by the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi.

At present, part of the IAEA group and Grossi himself left the territory of the nuclear power plant, the cars headed towards Energodar. Before leaving the station, the residents of Energodar handed over to the head of the IAEA an appeal, under which there were more than 20,000 signatures, with a call to stop Ukraine's provocations against the nuclear power plant. They also handed over materials related to the shelling of the city by the Armed Forces of Ukraine - photographs and eyewitness accounts.

Grossi told reporters that it was difficult for the mission to get to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. It is important, he said, that the world know what is going on at the plant, and he will consider establishing a permanent IAEA presence there, which is necessary to stabilize the situation and obtain regular, reliable and impartial data.

According to Alexander Volga, head of the CAA Energodar, from 8 to 12 people from the IAEA mission will remain at the Zaporozhye NPP. The authorities of Zaporozhye are going to show the IAEA representatives the state of the residential sector and the consequences of shelling of social facilities by the Ukrainian military.

Today, an IAEA group was detained for several hours at a Ukrainian checkpoint on the line of contact. Despite the obstacles that the Ukrainian side tried to fix, the mission nevertheless reached the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. According to the head of the State Administration of Zaporizhzhya region Yevgeny Balitsky, the Ukrainian side demanded that the delegation members agree in writing that Kyiv is not responsible for their safety.

Representatives of the IAEA intend to stay at the nuclear power plant until at least September 3.
