Taiwan deployed cannons against Chinese drones off its coast

Asia (bbabo.net) - Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense on Friday announced the deployment of anti-drone weapons on the offshore islands of Kinmen and Matsu following several incidents with unmanned aerial vehicles flown in from China. This is reported by Taiwan News.

Chinese civilian-looking drones have been spotted over Taiwan-held islands off the coast of China's Fujian province for several days. One of them was shot down over the sea in the Kinmen area on Thursday, September 1 after he did not respond to warnings from the Taiwanese military.

Also on Friday, soldiers stationed on Liyu Island in Kinmen County, 10 kilometers off the Chinese coast, fired flares several times to drive off Chinese drones.

The military said it favors a flexible response to the drone incursions, adding that it has equipped soldiers on the islands with special weapons. The guns are not firearms, but jam the frequency used by the remote control to communicate with the drone, causing the aircraft to go out of control and crash.
