Belarusian court sentenced conspirators who planned a coup d'état

Belarus (bbabo.net), - In Belarus, the main accused of conspiracy to seize power were convicted. This was announced today, on September 5, by the press service of the Minsk Regional Court.

The guilty verdict was handed down to all five defendants in the case of a conspiracy to seize power by unconstitutional means: publicist Alyaksandr Feduta, leader of the Belarusian Popular Front Grigory Kostusev, American lawyer Yury Zenkovich, lawyer Olga Golubovich and activist Denis Kravchuk. The court sentenced the main defendant Zenkovich to 11 years in prison, Fedut and Kostusev to 10 years each. All three are scheduled to serve in a penal colony. Olga Golubovich and Denis Kravchuk were each sentenced to 2.5 years in prison, serving in a penal colony.

Recall that in the spring of 2021, Alexander Lukashenko announced the arrest of a group of people who were preparing an assassination attempt on him and his children. The group included both Belarusians and foreign citizens who, in addition to the physical elimination of the Belarusian leader, wanted to organize an armed rebellion to seize power by force. According to Lukashenka, American intelligence services were involved in this. During the trial, the public prosecutor asked the court to impose a sentence of imprisonment for all the accused - 12 years for Zenkovich, Fedutya and Kostusev and 3 years for two more defendants who did not participate in the conspiracy. Lawyers for the accused have not yet commented on whether they will appeal the verdict.
