Israel recalls Moroccan ambassador for sexual harassment

Israel recalled its ambassador from Morocco and launched an investigation against him, Arab News reported.

According to Israeli media reports, the 59-year-old head of the diplomatic mission, David Govrin, is accused of sexual harassment of local residents and indecent exposure of his body. In addition, he is accused of embezzlement of public funds and suspected of stealing a gift from the Moroccan king in honor of the Israeli Independence Day.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry acknowledged that Govrin was under investigation, but declined to provide more details.

David Govrin was appointed Israel's ambassador to Rabat last year, following a thaw in relations between the countries. Analysts say that in exchange for rapprochement between Rabat and Tel Aviv, Washington turned a blind eye to Morocco's claims to Western Sahara.
