Ukraine - Levits in Kyiv urged to start the process of Ukraine's accession to the EU as soon as possible

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Latvian President Egil Levits arrived in the capital of Ukraine, writes Lsm.lv.

“Today I am in Kyiv to assure Volodymyr Zelensky of Latvia’s unwavering strong support for Ukraine until victory in this war. Latvia is your protector. Latvia will help in the recovery efforts,” wrote Levits on the social network.

During a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, Egil Levits said that “in Latvia, people feel deep solidarity with Ukraine, because they know what it is like for an alien army to invade their independent country.” According to Levits, "Latvia believes that the war will end with the victory of Ukraine."

“For Ukraine, not only military, financial and humanitarian support is extremely important, but especially political support. Latvia is Ukraine's ambassador to the European Union, NATO, the UN and all over the world. Together with like-minded people, Latvia insists that negotiations at the EU level be started as soon as possible on further promoting the status of a candidate country for Ukraine,” Levits said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Levits and stressed that "Latvia belongs to those countries that have provided proportionally the greatest assistance to Ukraine since the first days of the war."

During the meeting, Egil Levits presented Vladimir Zelensky with the Latvian Order of Viestura, awarded to him by the Chapter of the Order on March 1, 2022. A plaque in honor of the President of Latvia has been unveiled on the Walk of Fame in Kyiv, dated April 13, 2022, the leaders of both countries met for the first time since the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.

In turn, Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the office of the President of Ukraine, who arrived there from Lithuania, is now visiting Latvia. This was announced by the Latvian political strategist Jurgis Liepnieks.
