The head of the IAEA began consultations with Russia and Ukraine on the buffer zone around the ZNPP

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said today, September 12, at a press conference that he had begun consultations with Russia and Ukraine on the creation of a buffer zone around the Zaporozhye NPP.

“You know that at a briefing to the UN Security Council a few days ago, I proposed urgently establishing a nuclear and security buffer zone around the plant. I have started consultations on this topic with both sides. Of course, with Ukraine… and also with Russia, an indispensable negotiating partner, as they control the facility,” Grossi said.

According to him, the IAEA sees signs of the interest of Russia and Ukraine in creating a buffer zone around the ZNPP.

As Grossi noted, shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant continues, and the reactors and spent fuel storage facilities are under threat. The IAEA is closely monitoring the state of affairs at Ukrainian nuclear power plants, there is no information about “critical situations” at them, added the head of the IAEA, whose words are quoted by TASS.
