US cuts military aid to Egypt again

Against the backdrop of the planned entry of Egypt into the SCO, the United States wanted to reduce military assistance to this largest Arab country.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has already notified Cairo of its intention to almost halve the overall package of support measures. Thus, instead of the planned $300 million, the Egyptians will receive only $170 million.

Washington justified its decision by violating human rights in the ARE, where, by the way, about 500 political prisoners were recently released.

This is not the first time the United States has cut military aid to Cairo - last year it did not receive the same amount of aid.

A day earlier, it became known that Egypt and Qatar had received the status of SCO dialogue partners, which brought them closer to joining the association. At the same time, six new SCO member states are about to be announced at the summit in Samarkand.
