The largest mosque in Europe is planned to be built in Dagestan

Russia and the CIS (bbabo.net) - In Makhachkala, on the shore of the Caspian Sea, it is planned to build the largest mosque in Europe, RIA Novosti reports.

A mosque, a hotel, a shopping center, as well as a park and a pedestrian zone should become part of the Rotunda integrated development project. This was told to journalists by the project consultant, CEO of Ricci | BlackStone Evgeny Kuzmin.

“The project involves a large-scale improvement of the territories, the construction of the largest mosque in Europe named after the Prophet Muhammad with a museum and a spiritual center, as well as the construction of a hotel and a shopping center. The volume of investments is estimated at 7 billion rubles,” Kuzmin said.

The customer of the project is the non-profit organization Spiritual and Educational Center named after the Prophet Isa, which intends to implement it at the expense of investors, as well as charitable donations from individuals. One of the sponsors of the project is businessman Suleiman Kerimov. Investors' funds are involved in the construction of a 4-star hotel and a shopping center.

According to the chief architect of the project Akhmad Magomedov, the integrated development of the territories will cover 60 hectares of previously marshy coastal lands. At the same time, development will be carried out only on 20% of the site, the rest of the territory will be landscaped for walking and recreation.

At the moment, the creation of the People's Alley with a length of 1.3 kilometers has already begun, designed to connect the mosque with a shopping center and a hotel. The alley will be equipped with benches and bike paths, as well as a cafe and an artificial stream.

It is assumed that on Friday, up to 25 thousand people will be able to gather in the mosque for collective prayer.

According to the authors of the project, the construction of the People's Alley will be completed in 2023, the construction of the shopping center will be completed in 2024, and the mosque will be ready in 2025.
