CSTO advance group deployed mission in Armenia

Belarus (bbabo.net), - Russian border guards informed the advance group of the Collective Security Treaty Organization mission in Armenia about the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This was announced today, on September 16, by the head of the CSTO Joint Headquarters, Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, who heads the advance group of the mission, following a working meeting with the head of the border department of the FSB of the Russian Federation in Armenia, Lieutenant General Roman Golubitsky.

“We received a vision of the situation and operational information about what is happening from our border guards who serve and participate in the protection of certain sections of the state border of the Republic of Armenia,” Sidorov reported.

Earlier this week, in connection with a sharp escalation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the CSTO Collective Security Council decided to send a mission to Armenia led by Secretary General of the organization Stanislav Zas, and also to create a working group from among the staff of the secretariat and the military personnel of the CSTO Joint Headquarters to constantly monitor the situation in the zone of responsibility of the military-political bloc. The CSTO advance group led by Anatoly Sidorov arrived in Armenia on September 15. The visit of the administrative head of the organization Stanislav Zas to the republic is expected next week.

The task of the mission will be to assess the situation in the conflict zone with Azerbaijan, prepare a report to the heads of the CSTO states and develop proposals for de-escalation in the region.

Armenia turned to the CSTO for help under Article 4 of the Organization's Charter, according to which aggression against one member state of the military-political bloc is considered aggression against all its members, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said last Wednesday.
