UN Regional Center for Central Asia to be established in Alma-Ata

Asia (bbabo.net), - UN Secretary-General António Guterres supported the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to establish a UN Hub on Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Alma-Ata. He stated this during a meeting with the Kazakh leader on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, reports today, September 22, the official website of the Administration of the head of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

As the site informs, at the meeting, held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, the parties discussed the state and prospects for strengthening multilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN.

Particular attention was paid to efforts aimed at developing collective approaches to solving the pressing challenges of our time.

Tokayev praised the leadership of António Guterres as UN Secretary-General and expressed full support for his initiative to convene a “Summit of the Future” in 2024. He expressed his hope that the outcome of this important event would contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The parties also considered the implementation of the initiative of the Head of our state to create in Alma-Ata the UN Hub on Sustainable Development Goals for Central Asia and Afghanistan. Guterres expressed his support for this important initiative.

It is reported that the UN Secretary General also highly appreciated the large-scale reforms implemented under the leadership of Tokayev in Kazakhstan.

At the end of the meeting, the Kazakh leader invited António Guterres to pay a visit to Astana.
