Pashinyan invited Aliyev to show cards

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, during his speech at the UN General Assembly on the evening of September 22 in New York, called on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to show a map of Armenia, "which he recognizes."

According to him, Azerbaijan is violating the ceasefire on a daily basis and an improper response to this situation by regional security organizations can contribute to a new escalation.

Azerbaijan is trying to present itself as a country that strives to achieve peace in the region, peace with Armenia. Baku also uses the theme of a peace treaty with Yerevan, demarcation of the border and opening of regional communications. However, there is no progress in these areas, because Baku raises these issues only in order to make claims against Armenia, Pashinyan argued.

“For example, one of the most important topics of the peace agreement is the mutual recognition of the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have already said that we are ready to take this step, but Azerbaijan has not reacted in the same way. On the contrary, Baku actively declared that the entire south and east of Armenia, and even the capital Yerevan, are Azerbaijani lands,” the prime minister said.

On the other hand, Baku continues to occupy significant territories of Armenia, and there is a high probability of new aggression from Azerbaijan, he added.

“In this regard, I would like to ask an official and public question and address it to the President of Azerbaijan. Could you show a map of Armenia, which you recognize or are ready to recognize as the Republic of Armenia?”, the head of the Armenian government addressed the Azerbaijani president.

According to him, it may turn out that Azerbaijan is ready to recognize only half of the territory of the neighboring country. If Baku recognized the territorial integrity of the internationally recognized territory of Armenia in 29.8 thousand square meters. km, it would be possible to sign a peace agreement through mutual recognition. Otherwise, Pashinyan continued, Azerbaijan will make new territorial claims and commit acts of occupation.

Last year, the prime minister noted, Baku occupied about 40 sq. km of the territory of Armenia. After that, Azerbaijan stated that Armenia refuses to form a delimitation commission, but it has been created and is working. Against this background, Azerbaijan launched a new aggression. At the same time, Pashinyan added, some of the international partners are silent.

“But how to explain now the aggression on the part of Azerbaijan? If someone suffers from an excess of aggressiveness, you can always find a reason to throw out this aggression,” the Armenian leader said.

Speaking on September 21 in Lachin, the administrative center of the Lachin region, which came under Azerbaijani control following the 44-day war in Karabakh in the fall of 2020, President Ilham Aliyev said that “we have collected all the cards, we have all the cards, including XIX century, and the XX century, and earlier, and these maps clearly show who is on what land. “Therefore, no one can accuse us without delimitation (border),” the head of the Azerbaijani state said.

Recall that on the night of September 13, fierce clashes began in certain sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. According to the Armenian Defense Ministry, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces used heavy artillery and rocket launchers, drones, striking both military and civilian infrastructure and attempting to advance their positions deep into the territory of the neighboring republic. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry shifted responsibility for the armed escalation to the Armenian side. After almost 48 hours of hostilities, the parties reached an agreement on a ceasefire from 20.00 (19.00 Moscow time) on September 14. Armenia previously reported 207 dead and 20 captured in the escalation. Azerbaijan has now acknowledged the death of 80 soldiers and officers.
