Erdogan Grain Corridor Proposal

Ukraine (bbabo.net), - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation today, September 28, with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky, Anadolu news agency reports.

According to the Public Relations Department of the Turkish President's Administration, during the conversation the parties discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.

Erdogan expressed great satisfaction with the successful completion of the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, on which "they have been working for a long time."

Noting that the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea is working, the Turkish leader suggested that "a similar approach could be used in the context of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and that a proposal for mediation and assistance in establishing a demilitarized zone around the nuclear power plant is needed."

Erdogan further touched on the issue of holding "one-sided referendums in parts of Ukraine under Russian control." According to him, the plebiscites "will complicate efforts to revive the diplomatic process."

Last week, Russia and Ukraine began consultations on the creation of a security zone around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), Rafael Grossi, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said on September 26. The Zaporizhzhya NPP is monitored by two members of the IAEA mission, who remained at the station after the mission's visit in early September. On August 26, the station was disconnected from the Ukrainian network. Connection to it was restored on September 17.
