Moldova will increase criminal liability for military service in Pridnestrovie

Moldova (bbabo.net), - After the announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin of partial mobilization in the Transnistrian region, a conscription to the Operational Group of Russian Troops (OGRF) stationed there may begin. This was stated by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on the Jurnal TV channel.

She clarified that at the moment there is no information that the process of increasing the number of this group has begun (the OGRF provides a peacekeeping operation and guards depots of old weapons in Transnistria. - approx. bbabo.net). The head of state warned that the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, together with other Moldovan departments, would soon come up with proposals to toughen penalties for those "who will fight on the side of the aggressor - Russia."

“In Pridnestrovie, mobilization into the ranks of the OGRF, which is illegally located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, can take place. This mobilization must be punished. The Ministry of Justice, together with other bodies, will develop proposals for tougher penalties for those who will be recruited,” Sandu said.

According to her, there were moments when the citizens of the Republic of Moldova were forced to obey the call. In this case, persons with dual citizenship who voluntarily go to war risk losing their Moldovan citizenship.

Recall that about 220 thousand Russian citizens live in Pridnestrovie, most of them have second citizenship. At a meeting of the Supreme Security Council of Moldova, Maia Sandu said that the authorities do not exclude the possibility of involving their compatriots, who hold two citizenships, in hostilities in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) of Moldova has already issued a statement that the participation of citizens of the Republic of Moldova in hostilities on the territory of other states entails criminal liability in accordance with national and international standards.

About 1,000 soldiers and officers serve in the OGRF. Its task is to support the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester and guard warehouses in the village of Kolbasna, where over 20,000 tons of ammunition, mostly expired, are stored there after the withdrawal of Soviet troops from European countries. In 2014, Ukraine and Moldova closed their borders for the supply and rotation of the Russian contingent in Transnistria. The problem was partially solved by conscripting Russians living in the region into service.
