Lithuanian Defense Minister: We will double our military budget in 2023

Lithuania (bbabo.net), - The military budget of Lithuania in 2023 will almost double the corresponding expenditures in the current year. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Baltic Republic Arvydas Anusauskas, according to RuBaltic.ru.

“The escalation in Ukraine continues. You need to be ready. In the state budget for 2023, the Ministry of Defense is planned to increase funding by almost two times compared to the current year,” Anusauskas explained on LRT.

However, he did not provide specific figures. In mid-September, Arvydas Anusauskas announced that Lithuania's military budget would exceed 2.5% of GDP next year. This year, the country's military spending is 2.26% of GDP.

In March, the Lithuanian Seimas increased military spending by almost €300 million, to 2.52% of GDP. However, the percentage varies throughout the year due to inflation.

Military appropriations of at least 2% of GDP are an informal requirement for NATO members. Lithuania reached this level in 2018.
