Companion of Saakashvili ruled out the possibility of leaving the post of chairman of the UNM

Caucasus (bbabo.net), - Chairman of the United National Movement (UNM) Nika Melia said he was not going to resign as chairman of the largest opposition association in the Georgian parliament.

“This is the dream of Bidzina Ivanishvili, which I will never realize. This does not correspond to reality in any way, there is not even a 0.001% probability of this. As for the difference of opinion, it should be in the Party, we are proud of it. From the first minute of my election as the chairman of the party, there were differences of opinion, this is normal, this is how it should be,” Melia said.

It should be noted that earlier, against the background of information in the Georgian media about the crisis and split within the party of Mikheil Saakashvili, a member of the United National Movement, Nika Oboladze, confirmed that the party was "in a deep crisis" that must be overcome.

“Mikhail Saakashvili, who was the de facto leader of the opposition, left Georgian politics. We can no longer be in the old reality, we need a restart and new elections in order to achieve broad legitimization from the people,” said Nika Oboladze.

According to Oboladze, the party must decide whether they want to change or remain in this formation, where the UNM "has no chance of defeating the power of the oligarchs." The first step, he said, should be the resignation of Melia from the post of chairman of the party.

“Let's do what we ask the government to do. Elections must be electronic and secret to remove all question marks. Now everything is in the hands of the party chairman and the rest of the party members. We must decide whether we want change or whether we remain in this formation, where the National Movement has no chance of defeating the power of the oligarchs. The first step should be the decision of Nika Melia to step down as chairman,” said Nika Oboladze.
