The head of the Ministry of Economy of Germany accused the US and the EU of provoking sky-high prices for gas

USA (bbabo.net), - The United States and a number of EU states are responsible for high gas prices, said Vice Chancellor, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck in an interview published today, October 5, with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper.

“Individual countries, including friendly ones, sometimes achieve exorbitant prices. Of course, this gives rise to problems that we should talk about,” Habek said, adding that unscrupulous suppliers often play against the interests of Germany in the fuel market and thereby “cash in” on the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine.

As Habek stressed, Washington turned to Brussels when oil prices soared, and as a result, European states tapped into national oil reserves.

“I think that such solidarity will also be useful in keeping gas prices down,” he added.

At the same time, the head of the German Ministry of Economy called on EU institutions to establish control over the actions of individual countries of the association to stimulate growth in gas prices.

“The European Union must combine its huge market power and organize reasonable and synchronized behavior of the EU states in the purchase of energy resources so that individual EU countries do not exceed each other’s rates and do not raise prices on the world market,” Habek said.
